Phase 2 - Building the Foundation of Phonics Knowledge
- Identifying, segmenting and blending commonly used phoneme to grapheme correspondences (4 Code Levels) All GPCs tested in the UK PSC are included.
- Identifying, segmenting and blending phoneme to grapheme correspondences (300+ most commonly used / high-frequency words in English) These words make up about 65% of words the children need to read and write.
The focus is on the development of phonemic awareness and an understanding that the speech sounds used when we say words in English are then represented on paper with 'pictures of speech sounds' (consisting of 1 or more letter) so that we can 'talk on paper'.
The Speech Sound Monsters have their own English Phoneme. When standing together, from left to right, we can 'follow the sounds to say the word!'
If we want to build words we can find the right Speech Sound Monsters and then place them on the Speech Sound Lines ourselves!

Learning to read, write and spell with speech to print (linguistic) phonics!
Also use the Core Phonics and Core HFW lesson BOOKS and also the Readers

Use the Online Training in the Lessons app!

Phase 1 - Getting ready for phonics!
We may use different speech sound monsters than the person next to us, because of our accents/ dialect/ language skills...

Parents learn to use Duck Hands, and to articulate and blend the Monster Sounds too!

Within the ICRWY Lessons app there are about 60 step by step lessons! Also, use the SSP Spelling Piano app, 2 Minute Monster Sounds app, and start learning all the Monster Sounds, ready for Phase 2! When the children know the Speech Sound Monsters Phase 2 is so much easier!

Also use the Core Phonics and Core HFW lessons

Parents can support at home using the ICRWY Lessons app with the SSP Spelling Piano app!
All hard copy resources are in the Home (for 1 child) Group (for 5) and Whole Class (for 25) 'Code in a Box' Teaching Kits
